Anatomy of a Tattoo machine

by Alice on Feb.03, 2010, under Tattoo & Body Art, Tattoo Machine & Guns, Tattoo Power supply, Tattoo accessories, Tattoo needle

All tattoo machines except rotary tattoo machines are made up of a frame, two coils, copper wiring, an armature bar, power supply and eyeless sewing needles.

The frame of a tattoo machine gun is the outer part. It forms the body of the machine. And then two coils, and it’s just a piece of steel down the core that’s wrapped by copper wire, they are wrapped to different thicknesses. This is wrapped, ten wraps deep. In tattooing generally the coils are wrapped from anywhere from six to ten wraps. And usually they use two coils. They are connecting together with a capacitor that acts to reduce the current to smooth out the energy flow. And then an armature bar, that when you attach a power supply, in this case it’s a twelve volt power supply. It creates an electromagnet and causes this armature bar to move up and down. When that contacts electricity, the coil sucks the bar down and when it breaks the contact up here, then it’s not a magnet anymore and the spring, springs it back up to do that again and that process repeats three thousand times approximately every minute. The needle portion is an eyeless sewing needle makes the tattoo needles. This one you probably can’t see but its three needles all packed together. And then they are soldered down to a long bar which we drop down to what we call the tube. And a couple of rubber bands act as a tensioning device to stop the needle from bouncing around.

How to Clean a Tattoo Machine

by Alice on Jan.30, 2010, under Tattoo & Body Art, Tattoo Machine & Guns, Ultrasonic cleaner

When you complete your tattoo, you must clean your tattoo machine by disassembling the needle and the tube assembly. First you can drop them into soak and bleach water soak. They soak in there for a while and that cleans all that off and then just spray down the equipment and the body of the machine frame. Rinse it off, and dry it and then it’s ready for your next service. When you’ve finished with a tattoo then, the needle goes into a Sharps container which is full of used tattoo needles, and they just collect there until they’re ready for disposal, and that gets thrown out. The tube part goes through a sterilization process.

After the tattoo is completed and the tube is soaked in some bleach water, the tattoo machine should be moved to an ultrasonic cleaner where the sound waves vibrate any residue off the remainder of the tube. At last, they go into the autoclave. An autoclave is very similar to a pressure cooker.

The Way to DIY Tattoo Gun

by Sophia on Nov.06, 2009, under Tattoo & Body Art

Did you ever have a tattoo by yourself? Most of you might have it by a artist. If you are bored of going to the studio, why not diy a tattoo gun by yourself? It can save your money and also can get a tattoo at home. Whats more, you also can do a tattoo for your familys or friends. It will be very fun and exciting, yes?

Tools

Crest SpinBrush toothbrush
11-gauge guitar string
Bic mechanical pencil with eraser
Razor blade
Screw longer than one-half the length of a pencil eraser
Pliers
Duct tape

Steps

Remove the head from the SpinBrush and the eraser from the pencil. Slice the eraser in half horizontally, and poke a hole in one side of the eraser. This hole will later be used to secure the guitar string.
Cut two to three inches of guitar string, and bend one half at a 90 degree angle. Poke the bent end through the hole in the eraser. Once you have fed the string through the hole, the next step is to secure it to the end of the toothbrush. At this point, the string will remain hanging free and we will need something to secure it. This is where the tip of the pencil comes in. Remove the tip by unscrewing it, and slide it over the end of the guitar string, then secure with duct tape. A short portion of the string should now be showing, which you will cut at an angle in order to create the point that will create the artwork.

Give Yourself a Tattoo Without a Gun, You Can Do It!

by Sophia on Nov.03, 2009, under Tattoo & Body Art, Tattoo news

Do you want to get a tattoo by yourself without a tattoo gun? Being tattooed by a professional tattoo artist is the safest way to get a tattoo. Although safety from injury or infection can not be guaranteed to, it is a different meaning for you to have it done by yourself. Here we will introduce one of common methods of self-tattooing.

Firstly, keep your hands clean during the whole process. Wash them with hot water and soap, dry with a clean towel, if use a hand dryer will be better. Sterilize a needle is to heat it with a lighter, or place it in boiling water. Put on a pair of new, sterile gloves.

Choose a location to place the tattoo. Be aware of veins and other sensitive areas, find a spot on your body that is easy to reach and safe to tattoo. Disinfect your skin with an antiseptic, draw out the lines of your tattoo, if necessary, using a ball point pen.

Wrap white sewing thread around the needle. Start at the top and wind around to the bottom. Repeat this a couple of times from the bottom to the top. Your goal is to get the thread thick and tight around the needle so that the tattoo ink will soak into the thread, leaving you with a good supply of ink while you tattoo yourself.

Dip the needle with the thread into the tattoo ink, and let the ink soak up the needle. Tattoo over the outline or in whatever manner you choose. You will need to make sharp and fast poking motions so that the ink will go into the skin, and to keep continuous lines. Repeat as necessary.
