How Pregnancy Changes Your Belly Button

by Sophia on Oct.13, 2009, under Piercing Q & A

Here are the answers to some of the most popular questions about the belly button of a pregnant woman.

Q. Does a pregnant woman has to take the belly button ring out during pregnancy? If so, when?

A. Many people who had their navels pierced prior to becoming pregnant have each made different decisions regarding the ring during pregnancy. Some people choose to remove it at their practitioners request, though no medical reason was stated, ask your practitioner what is right for you. Some choose to leave it until their bellies got larger and then removed it. A few were forced to remove it as it became uncomfortable at the very end of pregnancy as their abdomens were stretched tautly causing a pulling sensation.

And here also have some who left it in the whole time with never a care.

Q. Why is the belly button sticking out?

A. Even if you’ve been an “inny” all of your life, during pregnancy the expansion of your abdomen can cause you to be an “outy.” There isn’t much you can do about this temporary condition, except to cover it with clothing. Some women have taped something over it to create a more flat appearance under their clothing. You should also have your practitioner check it out to ensure you don’t have a hernia.

Q. Is it normal to have a flat belly button?

A. Yes, as your stomach expands with the baby, you may notice that your belly button becomes flat and taut against your skin. This is normal and will revert back to your normal belly button once your baby is born.

Q. If have a pain inside the belly button. What causes this?

A. This can be caused from the stretching of the skin on your abdomen or it can a muscular issue. Always report pain to your doctor or midwife.

Q. If the belly and belly button are itchy. Should be concerned?

A. As the skin stretches it may become irritated and itchy. Try keeping it well hydrated with your favorite lotion for some relief.

Are Eyebrow Piercings Safe?

Yes, eyebrow piercings are completely safe. But your safety depends on a variety of factors. You need to make sure you have someone do it who has a lot of experience and runs a clean facility. You want to make sure everything is sanitary, and that they are true professionals. Also,it is important to understand how to care for your new eye brow piercing. If you are unsure of how to do that, you will want to make sure that the person who does the piercing is knowledgeable enough to help you.

What are the eyebrow piercing risks?

There are some common eyebrow piercing risks. First, there is the possibility that the area will become infection. In the absence of adequate care, infection can result in scarring and even blood poisoning. Make sure everything is clean is important. Beside infection, eyebrow piercing can cause nerve damage, if a piercing isnt positioned cautiously, it can penetrate a nerve, detaching it and making the adjoining area devoid of any sensation. And whats more, some people are allergic to particular metals and only realize this during piercing and have a serious reaction to the eyebrow piercing jewellery. The inflammation, coupled with problems in breathing can result in hospitalization. If you want to get an eyebrow piercing, your best bet is to consider these risks and figure out ways to minimize them.

This can be very dangerous, especially since you are not a trained professional in the art of body piercing. No matter what type of piercing you are interested in, never try it on your own. How to Buy Body Piercing Needles?

by Alice on Jun.23, 2009, under Body jewelry, Body piercing kits, Body piercing needle, FAQ, Piercing Q & A, Tattoo & Body Art

Body piercing is simply piercing or putting holes in the body with piercing needles. Piercing needles come in various sizes and brands, but safety is the most important element when considering body piercing.

 body piercing needle

1. Pick a body piercing decorative ornament. The ornament style ranges from nose, eyebrow, nipple, navel and tongue rings and clamps. The selected ornament will determine the needle size. Piercing should not be done by a novice.

2. Decide if the body piercing needles will be bought pre-sterilized or sterilized by using sterilization procedures prescribed by local health authorities. The pre-sterilized body piercing needles are more expensive, because each needle is packaged in a separate sterile pouch. Do not use if the package show signs of tampering.

3. Purchase body piercing needles from wholesaler. Wholesale brokers generally sell piercing needles and other body piercing items at discounted prices. Check age requirements. Some wholesale agents require a customer to be at least 18 years of age to purchase products from their website.

4. Control contamination, allergic reactions or infections of the pierced site. Invest in piercing needles with at least a .925 sterling silver content or 316L grade surgical steel.

5. Select the needle. Body piercing needles are available in the curved or standard shape. The universal needles sizes are 18g, 16g, 15g, 14g, 13g, 12g and 10g.

6. Use precaution when purchasing needles. Buy from only reputable companies. If needles are damaged, do not use. Additional items may be needed to complete the piercing procedures.

Belly Button piercing aftercare!

by Alice on Jun.20, 2009, under Body jewelry, Body piercing kits, Body piercing needle, Piercing Q & A, Tattoo & Body Art

Navel piercing

It is a semi-quickly healing piercing with usually little complications of belly button piercings. They tend to heal like an ear piercing without little rejection and migration, but at the same time, you may encounter the healing process as more like a surface piercing with the rejection and migration risks. When you get a belly button piercing, it is essential that you look after it properly to prevent it from becoming infected. This is especially the case just after you have had it done. Ideally the person who performed the piercing should already have advised you on how to look after your piercing now that it has been done.

Belly button piercing aftercare tips!

In fact this aftercare is just to prevent the piercing parts from infection. It is extremely unpleasant and it can be really painful too. Following are some tips to avoid this.

1. Use mild antibacterial soap each day!
Using a mild antibacterial soap on your piercing every day will gently cleanse the area and keep it protected from infections.

2. Use a salt solution on the piercing daily!

Using a salt solution may sound a little uncomfortable but it can really help you to keep the area clean especially if you do this each day will really being a help. It is so simple to create your own solution by mixing a gallon of boiled water to 4 teaspoons of non iodized sea salt. Just soak a little cotton wool in the solution and then hold it over your piercing for a few minutes each day. Again this will keep it free from any infection. But remember the salt should be sea salt instead of taste salt.

3. Keep the belly ring clean!

Soaking your belly ring in a saline solution once the piercing has healed is a good way to keep the piercing clean. However you should not do this until you are sure that the piercing is actually healed as otherwise it could damage the skin.

Overall keeping the piercing clean and giving it time to heal is essential if you want to enjoy the piercing. If you were to develop an infection then you would have gone through the piercing for nothing and you would suffer quite badly from it too.

Aftercare DOs and DON’Ts!

DOs with a new belly botton piercing:

1. Wear loose fitting clothing that allows the piercing to breath- cotton works best.

2. Make sure your hands are clean.

3. Do use a new Dixie cup and Q-Tip each time you clean.

4. Ask your piercer if you have any problems or questions.

DON’Ts with a new belly botton piercing·

 1. Don’t use any type of ointment on the piercing- to include A&D, bacitracin, Neosporin, bactine- because it can smother a piercing.

2. Don’t use hand sanitizer, Dial soap, or peroxide as they are all too harsh for a piercing and can cause irritation.

3. Don’t wear tight fitting clothing that restricts the breathing of the piercing.

4. Don’t touch your piercing for any reason other than to clean it.

5. Don’t change the jewelry until you are absolutely healed. The best thing to do is to return the piercer to make sure it’s ok to change it and/or to change it for you. It’s, also, goo to buy the new jewelry from your piercer, so that you know you are getting high quality jewelry.

6. Don’t wear heavy barbells or barbells with dangles (things that hang) for extended periods of times. Dangles can catch on belts, pants, shirts, etc. which will irritate the piercing. Heavy jewelry will pull on the piercing because of the weight, which will again, irritate it. If you want to wear something gaudy and “blink blinking’” to “club” that’s fine, as long as you put a normal, light-weight piece of jewelry when you get home.

7. Don’t go into a pool, hot tub, ocean, lake, or any other body of water. It is unsanitary and having a healing piercing submerged in unclean water is bound to cause you irritation.

8. Don’t use a tanning bed with a healing piercing.
